Just south of Barcelona are the vineyards of the Penedés denominació d’origen – rolling, arid hills covered with old vines and dotted with bodegas making excellent though still relatively little-known wines and Cavas (the town of Sant Sadurni d’Anoia in this region is the historic “capital” of Spain’s best sparkling wines). If you enjoy wine, consider adding one more day to your Barcelona experience to visit and taste in this delicious wine country.
We work with several favorite producers to show off the varied wines and approaches to winemaking in the region. A superb wine country day might include Codorníu, best known for its historic role in pioneering Catalonia’s sparkling wine tradition and for its impressive moderniste architecture; Recaredo, a small-scale, top-quality Cava producer committed to old-fashioned artisanship (they are among the last few to use a real cork for secondary fermentation and to perform the disgorgement manually); and Albet i Noya, a family-owned winery whose younger generation is focusing on biodynamic production and having great success both with Cavas and with reds. (If you’re a real wine nerd, ask about their intriguing research on pre-phylloxera heirloom varietals.)
You’ll have a driver and private transportation so you don’t have to focus on navigating the backroads, and can taste as you please. We’ve also included lunch at a wine country grill popular with the local vintners.

- Tours and tastings at three of the Penedés region’s best wineries;
- Lunch amidst the vineyards at a wine country restaurant, including selected wines and gratuities;

This is designed as a one-day and one-night extension to our Best of Barcelona culinary tour. The tour starts and ends at your Barcelona hotel. Please contact us if you’re interested in a custom winery tour day that does not include lodging.
Please note for larger groups sharing transportation we may be able to quote a lower price. Also, for couples and small groups especially, depending upon vintners’ schedules, not all touring and tasting will be conducted privately – part of the time, at least, you may be asked to join other visitors at the wineries.
